ABSTRACT
This inquiry aims at presenting a positive approach to Pyschology apllied to the field of mental health in the treatment of patients with mental disorders. The intervention herein presented was conducted in therapeutic groups with patients from a Psychosocial Health Center named as CAPS in Brazil. The analysis of group work was based on a conceptual tripod: the Humanistic Approach and its vision of men and the world, the (Con)text Method of Multiple Literacies, and the Positive Psychology. Quantitative and qualitative phenomenological research was used. The research results were divided into categories regarding the group work with patients with depression related disorders. In searching for a new model of working in mental health that aims at preserving the humanistic approach and the citzenship of the service users, the Health Center named as CAPS emerges as a historial result to the construction of the health/illness concepts, for implementing the guiding principles of Psychiatric Reform in Brazil. From within this process of change, a positive approach to Pyschology opens the horizons for a practice based on a new way of seeing the subject, emphasizing and developing the “virtuous” aspects as the possibility for Health in its broader meaning, together with Health Promotion and the creation of a difference from the previous models of interventions of Psychology.
